Welcome to Simple Living Media’s Home for the Holidays! We’ve got 25 giveaways across the entire network this week to give you plenty of chances to win a great gift, just in time for the holidays.

This giveaway is now closed. Thank you!

Today I’m giving away a $100 Gift Certificate to Gussy Sews!

Gussy Sews is the creative brainchild of Maggie Whitley, aka “Gussy” as she is affectionately known.

I am a happy fan of this wonderful shop of hand-sewn bags and accessories.  I was drawn to the lively patterns and the adorable ruffles.  I think you’ll like Gussy’s work, too!

If you’re looking for handmade gifts for the women and girls on your list, or if you’re looking to treat yourself, this shop is a good place to browse.

One of my daughters and my niece are each are going to receive a Gussy Girl purse under the Christmas tree this year.  I have several of the small zippered pouches (I couldn’t resist that super fun houndstooth print) that I use for my cell phone, ipod, and to keep my smaller knitting tools in.

I think Gussy Sews embodies the idea of something being useful and beautiful (and fun!) at the same time.

Giveaway: Card Table Playhouse from Miss Pretty Pretty

Welcome to Simple Living Media’s Home for the Holidays! We’ve got 25 giveaways across the entire network this week to give you plenty of chances to win a great gift, just in time for the holidays.

This giveaway has ended.  Check back on Saturday, December 4 for the winner!

Today I’m giving away a Card Table Playhouse made with eco-friendly felt from Miss Pretty Pretty! These charming playhouses, the original Etsy Card Table Playhouses, are handmade with great attention to detail by shop owner Julie.

My kids have the Animal Sanctuary playhouse and have been happily playing with it on a daily basis. We’ve had a good time discovering the different animals and the kids love the movable pieces that make the playhouse interactive.

As a parent, I love that this playhouse is something that all of my kids, from my nine year old to my two year old, are enjoying and playing with together.  I think playhouses have appeal for kids of all ages.

With sturdy seams, careful stitching, and so many details, it is obvious to me that Julie puts a great deal of love and care into the creation of these playhouses. It fits very easily over our standard sized card table, magically converting it into a playhouse!

8 Simple Steps to a Meaningful Hanukkah

The following post was originally  written by contributor Robin Zipporah of The Not-Ever-Still Life in December 2009.

Hanukkah or Hanukah or Chanukah – however you spell it, it’s a perfect holiday for reflecting on parenting without fuss. This Jewish eight-day holiday, is ritually considered to be a minor festival.

Hanukkah’s proximity to Christmas on the calendar has inflated its significance and its reputation for eight days of gifts but at heart, this is a small holiday with a big idea: that thousands of years ago a group of Jews had only enough oil to light the Temple’s Eternal Light for one day, and God made a miracle happen. The oil lasted for exactly eight days – just long enough for a fleet of messengers to travel the distance to retrieve more oil. We light candles for eight nights to commemorate the miracle of the oil, and in that spirit I offer you eight activities for an enjoyable family Hanukkah.
