Birthday goodie bags plus a Kid Made Modern block party kit giveaway!

Written by Kara Fleck, Simple Kids editor and Rockin’ Granola mama.

I mentioned in yesterday’s post that we had a Birthday Block Party for my soon-to-be eleven year old last weekend.  (Eleven!  Isn’t that just crazy? Double ones!)

We had some friends over to paint and create and we had a really good time.  One of the things I loved about this party was that instead of bringing something to our house, our friends got to leave with something – the blocks that they had painted.

We also gave each guest a little goodie bag as a thank you for coming.  We used simple brown paper lunch bags that we decorated with patterned tape.  Super easy and low-fuss!

Inside each bag we included:

It was a fun day, one of our best parties, and also one of the easiest to coordinate and host.   Building the party around the Block Party kit made it so easy for everything else to fall into place.  Intentionally having it be a “messy” party meant  no one was worried about making a mess because that was why we were gathered, to make a mess and celebrate.  Don’t you just love it when things like that happen?

Speaking of the Block Party Kit, I’ve got some fun news …

Developed by a wife and mother of five, the Milk and Honey Co. focuses on sweet essentials for mom and baby. I love founder Susan’s desire for products that are beautiful, stylish, and grow as her children do.  You can read more about the company, and Susan’s vision, at the Milk and Honey Co. website.

The giveaway

The Milk & Honey Wrap is a sweet mothering essential: it’s a nursing cover that doesn’t scream, “I am nursing under here”, a scarf that dresses up your go-to jeans, a swaddle, a carseat blanket, a sun blocker for your morning stroller run, and a cape when you need to redirect your toddler from the pots and pans.

Games we play: Spot It! (and a giveaway, too)

The following post is by editor Kara Fleck.

Today is Friday.  At our house that means tonight is our Friday Night Nest, a time when we gather up all of the pillows in the house, make a “nest” and spend some time together as a family.

Sometimes we watch movies, sometimes we do puzzles, create crafts together, and sometimes we play games.

Games we play: Spot It!

A game that has been in our Friday Night Nest rotation for a few months now, after I was given a copy from to review, is called Spot It!

Weekend giveaway: Maestro Classics

I‘ve got an exciting giveaway to share with you this weekend!  It is from our newest sponsor, Maestro Classics.

Maestro Classics “began in 2004 in Washington, DC as Magic Maestro Music™. The outgrowth of over a decade of sold-out concerts for young people and their parents at the Kennedy Center with the Washington Chamber Symphony, music director Stephen Simon and executive director Bonnie Ward Simon turned their efforts to sharing their gifts with a wider audience. Experience had convinced them that if you educated as you entertained, were sophisticated enough to interest the parents as well as children, and offered only the finest musical performances, all children could appreciate symphonic music.”

This giveaway is now closed.  Thank you!

We are already fans of Maestro Classics at Simple Kids and we think that you and your kids will be, too!
