December 4th: SK Showcase and Weekend Links

We have had some wonderful discussions this week on how to have an uncomplicated holiday season.  As usual, the SK community shared some wonderful insights in both the Mission Impossible? and Three Most Important Things articles.  Make sure you have read through the comments on those!

For this week”s Showcase, Lola from maxylola shares some ideas on turning old paintbrush handles into a very cool DIY fishing game.  To find out how to go from this:

  1. I’d like to share not something that I’ve read, but rather, something that was read to me. My six year-old daughter read me “The Giving Tree” a few nights ago (after having me read it to her for a year). I can never read/hear that story without getting a lump in my throat, and hearing it in my daughter’s voice made it that much more special.

  2. That paintbrush / fishing creation is fantastic!

  3. Thank you Megan! Looks like you have some other great links here. I loved that photo of Soule mama’s – that was magic.

Scaling back the expectations and hype of this season seems just so right this year. I am thoroughly enjoying my month and haven’t felt any “holiday stress” (if I don’t finish those couple sewing projects for the kids that might change however but I think I’ve scheduled enough time…) I love what I’m seeing on the internet these days about slowing down and changing the crazy norm of this time of year. Very encouraging.

    • You read Small Notebook, right? One of the most liberating ideas for me was last year when Rachel wrote about just “showing up” for Christmas. I loved that it and has profoundly changed my approach to Christmas!

  4. I like the fish!

  5. Love the fishing game! My dad is a paint contractor so I have the hook up for old paint brushes.

Oh, and I LOVE My Kitchen Cafe. Everything I’ve tried from her blog is wonderful!
