Flashing back to my own childhood

[really_simple_share]

Arianne over at Simple Design has started a fun link-up for sharing our thrift store purchases, Thrift Haul.  Second-hand shopping is one of my favorite hobbies (if you can call something that is also a necessity a hobby, and I think you can).

As I mentioned yesterday, we’ve been spending quite a few weekend mornings cruising the thrift stores looking for picture frames.

Recently one of my thrift store scores had me flashing back to my own childhood: a Fisher-Price Main Street set.

Normally I’m not really a fan of plastic toys and prefer playthings made of natural materials.  However, I remember playing with, and loving, Fisher-Price little people as a child and I just couldn’t resist adding this one to our collection (we also have the Fisher-Price barn that was mine as a kid).  What can I say?  My sentimental heartstrings were plucked.

We were lucky to find this one in its original box, with all of its pieces, and with the stickers in terrific shape.  What fun!

It was five dollars well spent as the kids have been enjoying it and I have been enjoying reliving my own childhood memories.

Are you a second-hand shopper? Have you had any recent thrift store scores? Head over to Simple Design to join in the link-up fun!

  1. Oh man I am a sucker for nostalgia! I remember seeing a Sesame Street plastic toy where the characters hide inside thee little tubes but if you press it, they pop out. I forget where I saw it but all these memories came back!

I also remember the round toy with the animal sounds, and if you pull the string, the arrow goes spinning around and lands on an animal which then makes the sound. I could remember thinking just how cool it was!

  2. So fun! I had that toy as a kid too, and my mom still has it around at her house. My kids loooove playing with it and delivering all the mail to the different stores!

I love to shop at second hand stores, but I try not to too often because i’ll find myself buying stuff I don’t need! :) I’m a sucker for a good bargain.

  3. WHAT a great find! Love it!

  4. Wow does this bring me back. I’ve been told all of my childhood toys are waiting for my future kids in the basement of my parent’s house. It might be a while, so perhaps I should just go pick them up for myself :)

  5. Oh my. We had that main street, plus the barn, plus the house, plus the airplane! Craziness.
