This giveaway is now closed.  Thank you!

I am so excited to announce that Simple Kids contributor and author Rae Grant has a new book coming out today – Homemade Fun: 101 Crafts and Activities to Do with Kids.

From Rae’s Note to Families and Kids:

“Homemade Fun is a tribute to simple ideas for childhood fun.  Many of the projects in this book are crafts that children have been making for generations. The directions and ideas are written to allow young crafters to try their hand at classic and imaginative projects with moderate adult supervision.”

Delightful Series

My family has thoroughly enjoyed Rae’s first two books in this series, Cooking Fun and Crafting Fun, and I can tell you that her third book is just as delightful!

Within moments of Homemade Fun‘s arrival at our house, my oldest daughter was in her closet with a flashlight trying out the shadow puppets and impressing her younger brother with her birds, dogs, and deer. We’re already planning that our next Family Friday Night will include Rae’s recipe for cheese pizza.

The book is divided into six sections:

  • Hand Sewing and Embroidery
  • Papercrafts
  • Making Jewelry
  • Baking
  • Building Things
  • Toys, Games, and Pastimes

I have always appreciated that the recipes and crafts Rae shares are so fun and creative AND can be made with objects and ingredients you probably already have around the house.  Rae shares with readers her gift for taking a few simple, ordinary things and turning them into something truly delightful!

Our daughters are beginning to enjoy sewing, so it would be so much fun to help them develop this interest. And who could ever go wrong with the baking :-)

The pecan oatmeal cookie recipe literally made my 34 week pregnant self drool! And my daughter loves oatmeal cookies ;)

The simple cork and hankie parachute looks like something that she would LOVE to run around playing with outside!

And even though it’s not something to “make” with my daughter I am a FIRM believer in everything from “Be a preservationist of childhood summers.”

My daughter is going to a one week sewing camp this summer, so I think she’d enjoy making the soft toy bunny together. And I’d love to try making pretzels – my kids love to bake and I’ve never made pretzels before.
