I interrupt your Summer fun to announce that December is coming. I know, I know. It is the middle of July, temperatures are in the triple digits, and the farthest thing from your mind right now is preparing for the December holidays, let alone holiday gifts or crafting.
It was the farthest thing from my mind, too. That is, until I glanced at the calendar and saw that next Wednesday is July 25, which means I have exactly five months until we celebrate Christmas.
Since I like to give each of my children at least one handmade thing every year and I also like to have all of my holiday crafting finished up before December 1st, that means I have approximately four months to select, create, and finish up a minimum of four handmade items.
Hmmmmm, a little daunting to look at it that way, eh?
A holiday kids gift craft-along
So, I thought about something I could do to motivate myself, and have a little bit of crafty fun with Simple Kids readers at the same time, and I thought about hosting a Holiday Gift Craft-along. Are you game?
I’m not sure exactly how it will play out just yet, but I’m thinking about something along the lines of a monthly link-up where we could share what we’re working on, our progress, and any patterns, tutorials, or techniques that we’re finding helpful as we create holiday gifts for our kids. Sound good?
Okay, then starting humming some holiday carols, cruising through Pinterest, and begin brainstorming some ideas. I, for one, plan to spend some time this weekend with a tall glass of lemonade and my back issues of Living Crafts magazine.

I will meet you back here in one week, on July 25th, and we’ll kick off our Holiday Craft-along and I’ll host a monthly link up on the 25th of every month where we can share our ideas and maybe even some progress for the real holiday go-getters. (Hopefully I won’t be the only crazy one out there)
Now, back to your regularly scheduled popsicles, swimming, and bubble blowing Summer fun …
