Love These Christian Bedtime Lullabies (and a BreakAway Music Giveaway, too)

The following post is by music reviewer Jennifer Brown.

This month you’ll be hearing a lot of love songs.  It’s that time of year, let’s face it:  Love is in the air!

While I hope you all take some time this month (and perhaps even more often than that) to tell the important people in your lives how much you love and appreciate them, I’m going to talk a little about another kind of love.

No matter what holiday is on the calendar or season of life we’re in, God’s love is always there for us and the details of our lives are important to Him.  One of the ways we try to remember this in our family is through some of our bedtime song collections.

We have a couple in particular that are time tested favorites that I want to share with you this month.

The first is Before I Dream:  Lord, I Love You an audio storybook that was given to us as a gift when my oldest was a baby.  There is a picture on the cover of the moon, so in our house it’s affectionately called “Moon Moon.”

We aren’t a family who is loyal to any one lullaby selection at bedtime, but once my oldest began requesting “Moon Moon” we soon became hooked.  Now, it‘s the number one played selection for our baby at bed and naptime.

This audio song and storybook is comprised of a collection of original songs and retelling of Bible stories in a format that is memorable and engaging for your preschooler.  My four-year-old is able to recount the stories he’s heard and has a familiarity with key figures in the Bible such as Samuel, Queen Esther, Moses and Daniel.

Interspersed with the stories are original songs that reinforce the stories and soothe little ones to sleep.  In fact, once my nine-month-old hears the first few lines of track one “Up and up and up Jesus went” he’s often starting to settle himself down for sleep.  So much for not picking favorites, huh?

Scriptute Lullabies

While I enjoy the story component of this album, as a mom I prefer the music of my next recommendation:  “Scripture Lullabies-Hidden in my Heart” by BreakAway Music.

The hidden in my heart concept is not original to BreakAway Music, in fact we own a similar CD called “Hide ‘Em in Your Heart Lullabies,” but it’s by far the best I’ve heard yet.

This lullaby CD is a collection of Bible verses put to music, nothing more nothing less.   However, the quality of the score and talent on the album is worth noting.  The creation of this album may have been intended as a lullaby for children, but it’s an appropriate choice for anyone looking for a peaceful, soothing reminder of God’s love.  I enjoy the serenity it brings to my ears in the midst of a hectic day.  I also appreciate that it helps our family remember key verses in Scripture which is a personal challenge for me.

Visit BreakAway Music’s website to hear samples from the album as well as download a free song!  They also make it really easy to send their music as a gift, what a wonderful way to show your kids some love this Valentine’s Day!

  1. My 3 kids have always loved All Through the Night and I Love the Mountains.

  2. My girls fall asleep to a CD called “Sing Over Me.” I’ve been thinking it might be time for some new bedtime music!

  3. My oldest two typically request O Come Emmanuel or Away in a Manger. For our littlest one, we’ve been using a couple of worship cds (Rain Down Heaven and Unless the Seed Falls) since he was born.
Love the idea of scripture set to music. This would be a great addition!

  4. Julie Gonsalves says:

My kids love “Sleep Sound in Jesus” by Michael Card.

  5. My girls love anything that we sing. This would be GREAT for us, though. We don’t have any lullaby CDs.

  6. I am immediately stopped if I try to sing anything other than “Jesus Loves Me.” 🙂

  7. My kids really like Celtic music for bedtime. 🙂

  8. For a long time, my daughter listened to a Christmas music CD before bed! I’d love to win this. Thanks.

  9. lindsey d says:

we usually listen to an instrumental nature cd. would love to win this!

  10. Wow, we really need to add to our music collection….usually we sing “Down by the Station” or “amazing grace” or “Playmates” – would love to add some Christian lullabyes to our routine! Thanks!

  11. Jesus, Loves Me, You are My Sunshine and Your Name (a worship song).
We would love one of these CD’s!!

  12. Our lullabies are usually sung by me or a duet with my oldest when she’s in the mood. Currently, we must be on a rainbow kick because the favorites are ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and ‘The Rainbow Connection’.

  13. We sing Jesus Loves Me and Oh how I love Jesus….nothing like hearing my three year old sing that to her baby sister.

  14. Our son is just 2 weeks old, but we’ve started singing the Doxology as his bedtime song.

  15. I’m expecting my first in about 2 months, and I can’t wait to sing him to sleep with “Amazing Grace,” which my mother sang to me almost every night until I was 3 or 4.

  16. Elli (Almost three) loves “As we lift up our hands…,” and Nate (4.5) loves Joy to the World – every night for over a year, no matter the season! Would love some new favorites. Thank you!

  17. Hush Little One.

  18. My daughter always goes to sleep with music playing. Even though she is 5, she still loves the Praise Baby CDs. They are so soothing. I would love to win this!

  19. I love All Through The Night, but we usually just play a Mozart Adagios CD. My kids would love these CDs! It would also help my daughter during her “rest time” (no more naps for her) in the afternoon to chill out and relax. Thanks for the great resource!

  20. We listen to the same lullaby music for naptime and bedtime. It’s a mixed cd of the greats such as Elizabeth Mitchell, Renee & Jeremy, and Mindy Gledhill. Most of the time I like to change out our music selections but this cd is too great and I’ve noticed our daughter misses it when we are away from home. This cd would be a great addition and I’d love to add Scripture to her life every day, especially set to music! Thanks for the opportunity!

  21. My niece Emery is the most perfect 2 year old. she’s beautiful and she’s so so smart. I love being in her life. Her mother, my sister is the best mom in the world and I just love to watch them together. When Emery was little I would sing her to sleep (if I was the lucky one that got to rock her because usually it’s mommy or grandma!) and my favorite song to sing to her would always be “Oh Be Careful Little Eyes”. I know her parents speak scripture into her life everyday, but what a better way than to SING scripture! I know they would really appreciate this gift. Thank you!

  22. We love singing hymns together as a family just before bed time. It’s such a joy to hear our three and four year old singing their little hearts out to Nothing But the Blood.

  23. songs we sing: Silent Night, Lord you are, Psalm 139, Grace upon grace…
favorite kids cd: Slugs, bugs, and Lullabies by Andrew Peterson and Randall Goodgame!

  24. My children have to have me sing to them before they sleep at night. Usually Jesus Loves Me, or Amazing Grace. We used to have a lullaby CD called Celtic Lullabies, which I loved.

  25. We have an Enya CD that we play and bed/nap time.

  26. My son likes a song called “I am a Child of God” as well as “We Three Kings”.

  27. My son loves to hear Amazing Grace or Jesus Loves Me, and more recently, Hark the Herald, Angels Sing. He also likes to listen to a lullaby CD after I leave the room, so this would be wonderful to win!

  29. Well, I have a 3 month old…and while he doesn’t detest lullabies, he doesn’t have a favorite yet. However, his favorite song is the ABC song. He loves hearing all the letters!

  30. right now my kids are loving veggie tales – not lullabies, not sleepy music at all. i have no idea how they fall asleep to this.

  32. We love the Praise Baby collection cd’s for bedtime.

  33. My kids have been listening to the Steve Green classic scripture memory cd’s. I’ve been wondering what else was out there for Scripture put to music. Thanks for the heads up, I checked out the website and the demo is beautiful!

  43. Sarah Gainey says:

  44. We love to sing in our house and bedtime is no exception. Our little guy is just 15 months old but has heard almost every hymn in the book!

Unfortunately, I usually only know the first verse of a song so I just make up words to the tune – May the Mind, I love you Lord, Rock of Ages – you name it.

Someday, he will be old enough to realize that I got the words all wrong but hopefully the heart just right.

  45. “It’s a Big World” by renee & jeremy

We love these songs for bedtime:)

  46. We do not have a cd of Lullabies so we sing together after reading the Bible and pray. We like singing songs from the Sunday School class.

    God bless you!

  47. I love singing to my kids, and Jesus Loves Me is a favorite. Also, anything from the Praise Baby CD’s, which I think are just fabulous (and so do my kids). Would love to have some more good Christian music for them.

  48. We listen to all types of music but our favorite is Sara Hickman when bedtime rolls around!

    Thank you!

  49. We just sing Jesus Loves Me every night before bed, but I would love a CD full of lullabies!
