Happy St. Patrick’s day! And our visit to Piney Acres Farm’s Irish Roots family day

Happy St. Patrick's Day from SimpleKids.net

Hello there!  If you’re here looking for this week’s parenting video, I’m afraid I’m having some technical issues.  I hope to have things resolved soon so I can share this week’s inspiration with all of you. I suspect it is simply of a matter of what my old boss would call fixing the nut behind the wheel, so as soon as I figure out what I’m doing in this fly by night vlogging operation, I’ll share.

In the meantime, I thank you for your patience with me by wishing you and your kids a happy St. Patrick’s day and by sharing a few pictures from our visit to Piney Acres Farm yesterday for their Irish Roots family celebration.

Piney Acres Irish Soda Bread

We filled our bellies with cabbage, Irish stew, and Irish Soda bread as big as your head!

We were lucky enough to purchase our soda bread from the Piney Acres Farm store, but if you’d like to share this treat with your kids for St. Patrick’s day, there’s a recipe for Irish Soda bread and Irish Flag Stew in the Simple Kids archives from the wonderful Christen Bennett Babb of Nurture Baby.

One of our favorite parts of the day was when the Indianapolis Ceili Band set up in the barn and played some traditional Irish music.  They taught some dances, too.  Such fun and sort of perfect to set the merry mood for the day.

One of the most exciting parts of the day was getting to meet the newest kid at the farm, Sweet Pea.

Lucy, who you might remember wants to be the Pioneer Woman when she grows up, fell in love with the goats.  She declared without the slightest bit of malice that she’s going to have a goat when she grows up and name it Jillian, after her big sister (who accepted the tribute with the love with which it was intended).

Local folks, if you’d like to come out and meet the new kid and all of the other animals at Piney Acres, the farm will be having an Easter egg hunt and breakfast with the bunny coming up in April.  Watch their website and facebook page for more details.

Happy St. Patrick’s day from my family to yours!  May the luck of the Irish be with you!

  1. Looks like fun! Our little wants a goat too! I explained that living in the city may limit that as we can’t even have chickens yet, never mind goats!!

  2. This looks like so much fun and better alternative to anything died green just for the sake of green. I am going to see if we have something similar here in Southern Cali for next year.
