Queen for a Day giveaway 2012

Welcome to our second annual Queen for a Day giveaway! I”ve been bursting at the seams to share this with you for weeks now and I”m so glad the day is finally here!

Today we’ve got six gift baskets full of treats to celebrate the mom in your life (or maybe the mom you”re going to celebrate is YOU), just in time for Mother’s Day on May 13.

This giveaway is now closed. Thank you!

Personally, it has always bothered me that there really isn”t a Mother of the Year award.  Not because I think I”d be in the running (trust me, I wouldn”t) but because, well, we have Oscars, the Emmys, the Grammys – we celebrate lots of super stars and I know a few super star moms who should be celebrated, too.

Because moms are rock stars in their own right, doing amazing things on a daily basis and shaping the future (not to mention dealing with oh, about a thousand details each and every day),  we wanted to do something special for them.

Some very kind and generous sponsors agreed with us that moms are awesome and they are helping us to make someone a Queen for a Day.

The six Simple Living Media channels (you have been by to see our newest sister blog, Simple Design, right? Isn”t it lovely?) are celebrating by blessing six moms with a gift basket full of goodies! Each item we’re showcasing would make a fabulous Mother”s Day gift for the mom in your life—and most are priced right around the $20-$50 range.

Let”s hear it for the moms! Read on to find out what”s in the Simple Kids gift basket this year.

1. Necklace from Chocolate and Steel

Christine Street of Chocolate and Steel makes beautiful modern, handcrafted, reclaimed silver jewelry.  Running her studio in an eco-friendly way, Christine uses reclaimed metal scraps and skips the harsh chemicals, to create beautiful jewelry.

Chocolate and Steel”s Je T”aime necklace with ruby heart is a sweet, delicate bit of romance that my neck has been happily wearing.  Every mom deserves a little something special and there are many beautiful items to choose from in Christine”s line, including a special section of gift ideas just for mom.

Chocolate and Steel is including one Je T”aime with ruby heart necklace in the Simple Kids Queen for a Day gift basket!

Be sure to check the Chocolate and Steel website for discounts and specials.

2. Collection of books by Anni Daulter

I have recently had a chance to review Anni Daulter”s book Naturally Fun Parties for Kids (read my review here) and I loved it.  When I contacted Anni about participating in the giveaway, I was thrilled when she offered her other two books,  Ice Pop Joy, and The Organic Family Cookbook as well.  What a terrific collection!

I am a mom of four who is interested in natural living but who also wants to be able to treat my children and throw celebrations for them without the guilt (or the sugar or any crazy ingredients I cannot pronounce).  I appreciate that there are resources out there from a like-minded eco-mama which provide kid-pleasing fare that doesn”t compromise my simple living values.  I”m happy to add Anni”s books to my collection and I think you will be, as well.

Anni Daulter is including one copy each of Naturally Fun Parties for Kids, Ice Pop Joy, and The Organic Family Cookbook in the Simple Kids Queen for a Day gift basket!

3. MarieNatie Lip Gloss

I am sort of a girly girl.  I love clothes and creating hair-do”s and pretty, pouty lips.  But, I like to keep things easy and  natural, too.  Girly-girl light?  I don”t wear a lot of make-up, especially on days that the kids and I stay at home, but I do have a daily beauty ritual that makes me feel pampered and a smudge of mascara and a bit of lip gloss is part of that pampering.

MarieNatie Cosmetics sent me their lip gloss in “cotton candy” to try and I have found it to be a very wearable, complexion flattering shade.

From the company website:

“Co-Founders Mary and Natalia started MarieNatie Cosmetics because of their love for makeup and everything natural.  Ingredients were carefully selected and tested to create the current natural makeup line.  Their dedication to present the very best is to ensure that consumers are getting what they deserve.  They want all women to love their makeup and to love MarieNatie.”

The company carries a variety of products in their line, and you can even customize your own lip balm. I”m quite pleased with the lip gloss I”ve been trying out and I think it will make some lucky mama feel pampered, too.

MarieNatie is including one lip gloss in “cotton candy” in the Simple Kids Queen for a Day gift basket!

4. Boardwalk Bag from Namaste

Namaste Inc. makes beautiful, cool, stylish bags.  I”m a knitter, and I see these bags being carried by all the stitchers in the know, in part because they are fiber friendly, meaning nothing is going to snag your projects.  But, you don”t have to be knitter to appreciate the style and quality construction of a Namaste bag.

Namaste knows that moms need their hands free, so they sent me a The Boardwalk Bag to try – it is a gorgeous backpack!  I picked the eggplant color, but the bag comes in black, espresso, and red, too.

With a fiber-friendly drawstring closure, a secret side pocket for easy access when you”re on the go, interior pockets (open top and zippered) this vegan friendly bag is ready to carry your gear in style.  The exterior is lush and rich looking, made of PVC-free faux leather and the inside is made of plush PET microsuede from recycled plastic bottles.  Eco-friendly and cool, right? Just the combo we savvy moms appreciate!

Namaste Inc is including one Boardwalk Bag in the winner”s choice of color in the Simple Kids Queen for a Day gift basket!

You can receive 25% off the purchase of regularly priced items at www.namasteinc.com.  Use the code: MOM25.  (expires May 5th)

5. Mother Letters ebook

Mother Letters {sharing the mess and the glory} began as a sweet present from a husband to a wife whom he knew needed encouragement.

Seth Haines collected letters of encouragement for his wife Amber, written by other moms.  The collection of letters, written from one mother to another, grew as more and more women added their voices, their words of encouragement, stories, and lessons learned.  Eventually, the letters were curated into the Mother Letters ebook.

Friends, I have to tell you, this book stopped me right in my tracks.  Yes, it did.  I was scurrying through my evening, trying to get things done, tucking in, tidying, straightening, and yes, fretting.  When the notice popped up that this ebook was waiting for me, I clicked it open and … wow.  One cup of tea turned into two and there I was, crying, laughing, nodding my head. From the very first letter, where I found myself saying out loud, “exactly!” I savored the words.

I needed this.  Perhaps you, or another mama you know, need this too? Maybe you have a letter within you, waiting to be born and shared with a special mom?

“I make what my heart desires. Take the turquoise and the gold, the yarn, the word ‘ravel’ – I twist them until I can stand back and see more than I had before. Isn’t that what art is? Making more of things? What art do you make? Mother, what art do you curate?” Amber Haines, Mother Letters Curator

One copy of the ebook Mother Letters is included in the Simple Kids Queen for a Day gift basket!

Between now and May 4 at 11:59pm, you can use the code SIMPLE5  to purchase this ebook for $5 (normally $6.99)
