Thanks for visiting Simple Kids. If you subscribe to the blog via RSS feed or via email, you'll get helpful tips and inspiration for simple parenting sent straight to you, for free!

We’re celebrating the big changes going on at Simple Living Media this week with a Giveaway! Each blog in the SLM family has a fabulous prize package with ONE lucky winner per blog.  Each of you will have up to two chances to win per blog.  Updated: make that THREE chances to win!

This Giveaway is now closed.  Thank you for entering!
Check back for a winner soon.

I’m so excited that a Simple Kids reader is going to win prizes from:

1. Blue Yonder Ranch

Stefani of Blue Yonder Ranch is also a contributor to Simple Homeschool.  She has written a fun and engaging series of ebooks based on the seasons“Food For Families: Food For Thought” is the motto of the Book of Days.

Readers are treated to inspiration for creating together, seasonal experiments, recipes, and encouragement to reach out and make a difference.  Each issue is chock full of ideas for families who are interested in slowing down and spending time together learning, playing, and enjoying nature.

As the video on the Blue Yonder website says, these days do not last forever … but the memories will. I am confident that the winner of these ebooks will be so pleased with the ideas and possibilities they hold.

The winner will receive a Subscription to the Book Of Days.

2. Hearth Song

Hearth Song’s motto is “toys you’ll feel good about giving” but I think you’ll agree with me that their Multi-Play Soccer Station would be pretty nice to receive!  More than just a soccer goal, this station includes a target net so your little super stars can practice their aiming and trapping skills.

This versatile set could be used for football practice, too.  The Hearth Song website suggests it would be great for baseball pitching practice and also for bean bag toss games.  Kids will love playing with the Soccer Station:  parents will love that it is a product that can store away simply in its own carrying bag. For ages three and up, it  comes with the carrying bag, soccer ball, stakes, and pump (adult assembly required).

The winner will receive a Multi-Play Soccer Station.

3. SouleMama

Amanda Blake Soule is one of my favorite authors and is probably one of yours, too.  Her blog is inspiring and her writing has influenced my family in many ways, including handwork ideas, family art time, and practical tips on creating magical moments in childhood.

Her books are so beloved in my house that I’m not sure they have ever actually been on the bookshelf – they are always in use! Amanda has generously offered to give copies of both of her books to a Simple Kids reader so that they can become well-loved and used often in your home, too.

The winner will receive a copy of The Creative Family and Handmade Home.

How to Win

Everyone has two THREE chances to win. Choose to enter just once or do all three!

1. Comment on this post, and answer this question: What is your family’s favorite way to spend time together?

2. Subscribe to Simple Kids by email or in your feed reader. Leave a separate comment letting me know you’re subscribed.

This time of year it’s hockey or sledding. With two active boys we really embrace the cold weather outdoor activities. We’re hoping to add snowshoeing into this mix this year, if we get enough snow.

We have a family night once a week on Fridays. Some of our favorite things to do our a movie and popcorn or game night! We also enjoy having “just because” parties where I dig out my box of (leftover) party decorations and decorate the house “just because.” The kids really love that!

My family is very young so we’re limited in what we can do together. We just have a 15-month old and another baby coming next month. Our favorite thing when the weather is warm is to go for walks together. Over the winter we’ve just done lots of playing and reading indoors.

Our favorite family time together is book time… we have 5 kids…8,6 and three 2 year olds, so it is definitely something we can ALL enjoy at the same time. :)

We like spending time together reading books. It is even better now that my 5 year old reads to us!

Just playing in the backyard. The kids love to dig, and play with the toys. Me and my husband can play along, or relax and watch the kids enjoy themselves.

We love reading together. We visit the library every week and own quite a collection of children’s literature. This winter we’ve spent many hours together piled on the couch reading.

one of our favorite things currently is to go to the aquarium where we have a membership for the year. Even the 1 year old can be amazed at the colors and movement of the animals and he gets incredibly excited and points to them and looks at me like “are you seeing this? this is AMAZING!!” The older two refer to the animals as “our aquarium friends” and its really spectacular watching them be amazed with nature.

16 Izzy February 9, 2010 at 9:43 am

We love working in our yard together and gardening, tending our animals and playing in the sand:)

17 Bethany February 9, 2010 at 9:44 am

Our favorite way to spend time together is to go on “adventures.” These can be nature hikes, riding the train/trolly around town, riding our bikes to the park, or just walking to the closest store. But anything that can be turned into an adventure is great fun for us all.

18 Laura Lynn February 9, 2010 at 9:44 am

Our family’s favorite way to spend time together is movie night. It gets us all in the same room, healthy but yummy treat to eat, kids get to set up a special area on the floor with blankets and pillows, and mom & dad snuggle on the loveseat. We are all together, but the kids get to see mom & dad making special time & space for each other. We laugh together and have something to talk about later. It’s great!

Nature walks, crafts and reading together are our big activities. Family game night has become part the schedule and soccer is my son’s favorite sport of the moment…going on 2 seasons now. Just time for us to all be together is special for us.

24 Jenny February 9, 2010 at 9:57 am

We love to geocache together!
Before we started geocaching, our children would begin to complain of fatigue 5 minutes into our “nature walks.”
Now that we geocache, they will happily hike from 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon, content with a granola bar and a bottle of water! It is FANTASTIC!
We’re the Lords & Ladies of Cache-a-Lot! And we’re HAPPY!

37 Cassie February 9, 2010 at 10:08 am

As a family, we love to be outside! It doesn’t really matter what we are doing, playing in the yard, walking around the neighborhood, going to the park, just breathing the fresh air is wonderful!

Our favorite family activity is planning, making and taking a picnic to different fun locations around town….usually includes trying out a new playground!

48 Sherri February 9, 2010 at 10:22 am

We just love spending time together, its not just on anyone thing. It really all depends on our mood/season, etc. I.e. in summer we usually love going hiking and exploring what nature has to offer. In winter we love curling up on the couch with a movie, popcorn and hot chocolate.

I’m a subscriber also via google reader!
