The following post is by editor Kara Fleck.
Today is Friday. At our house that means tonight is our Friday Night Nest, a time when we gather up all of the pillows in the house, make a “nest” and spend some time together as a family.
Sometimes we watch movies, sometimes we do puzzles, create crafts together, and sometimes we play games.
Games we play: Spot It!
A game that has been in our Friday Night Nest rotation for a few months now, after I was given a copy from Blue Orange games to review, is called Spot It!
Spot It! is a matching game, the object being to be the fastest person to call out the match between two cards. There are 55 cards in each deck, each card is decorated with 8 symbols, and there are more than 50 symbols in all.
There is a basic matching game called The Tower, plus 3 other mini-games that you can play with Spot It!
The game is intended for 2 to 8 players, ages 7 to adult. My ten year old caught on to the concept quickly. Although our almost six year old can play the basic Tower mini-game, after a bit of coaching and help, I would say that it is a game best suited for older kids, according to the recommendation. (When we play as a family, we create a team of the littlest girls and mommy, but I think we’ll soon be picking up a game of Spot It! Jr so that everyone can play).
My family enjoys this game and it can get pretty loud and silly when we play together. It is fast paced, funny, and rounds go quickly. Aside from the deck of cards, there aren’t any extra little pieces or even a game board, no batteries required. You simply grab your deck of Spot It! cards and you’re ready to play. Simple, good, family fun!
There is an online version that you can play if you’d like to check out the concept.
I think Spot It! would make a great addition to a family’s game collection, especially if you have older children.
The giveaway
The generous folks at Blue Orange games sent two copies of Spot It! – one for my family to review and one for me to give away to a lucky Simple Kids reader.
