Today was a lovely, lazy, crafty day. My littlest Flecks were up super early (like 5:15 early. egad.) but the trade off was an early morning nap, something which rarely happens for my youngest any more.
A nap in the middle of our morning threw our rhythm off a bit, and it meant the whole day moved at a slower, lazier pace. However that speed seemed perfect for a hot mid-July day.
Sometimes you just have to ignore the calendar and do what comes naturally.
Today was …
A morning spent building boats (thanks to the arrival of our July Kiwi Crate yesterday) and splashing in the kiddie pool in the backyard.
We had enough extra supplies (thanks to the sibling add-on option) to make two boats and grab a kitchen sponge to make a third little boat for baby sister.
Sunshine so hot it made for lazy bumblebees. Max was concerned this one wasn’t alive, but when gently prodded with a stick it moved and buzzed away, so we decided it was just napping because it was too hot to fly. Hopefully he found some shade.
Playing with water and coffee filter paper and markers (thanks again, Kiwi Crate).
Mid-morning naps that stretched past lunchtime. It did mean we missed a meet-up with local mamas at the splash park, but all in all, I think it was an okay trade-off.
Staying indoors in the afternoon, hibernating in the cool of the air conditioner, reading The Magic Tree House series and eating popcorn. We’re on book #3 and I keep thinking how is it possible we haven’t read these before? My kids are loving them!
A great mail day! Amelia received some early birthday money from one of her grandparents, so we splurged and purchased her some bows for her hair, which is getting longer now. The little box of bows arrived in the mail today and she loves them so much she wanted to wear them all at the same time, ha ha!
Today was also …
- Adding to my Christmas 2013 Pinterest board (because, evidently that’s what I do when it feels like it is 100 degrees outside).
- Laundry, laundry, and more laundry.
- Squabbling siblings (sigh).
- NOT about catching up on my email (double sigh). It would appear my Summer work schedule = perpetually behind (or distracted by Pinterest). But, these perfectly timed words from Shawn have given me some perspective on that and I’ve decided to save the guilt for sin, as a mentor of mine says.
And I do believe tonight is going to be knitting and watching a movie with my husband after the kiddos go to sleep. Or, even better, perhaps I’ll get to bed early tonight to make up for the pre-dawn risers at my house.
I hope you and your kids had a lovely day, too!
