Thank you for this wonderful post. I have 2 little girls, 2 1/2 and 1 and I was hoping to get some ideas from you about some outdoor games and activities I can do with them...sleeping out may be too much right now, but walks are awesome and we gather lots along the way too...any more suggestions? Thank you again.

Thanks for your talk about the telescope and microscope. I have been tossing around these two items but my kids are still preschool age and I wasn't sure if they were too young to really start enjoying these tools of discovery.

Also I appreciate you linking to specific brands of these items that you have purchased with success, I have wondered if a good quality telescope could be purchased reasonably.

I would love more ideas on activities to use with young children on both of these items.

Thanks,
Sharon

Megan - Tsh and I are both super happy that the site's actually off the ground. As you probably know, Tsh is the design guru. I feel nothing short of honored to have her total faith in my writing on her brand. Good to know a fellow 'horn. Let me know if you hear anything locally about Stoops going pro-- that would be fantastic news!

Renee - Hopefully it won't be too hot for the new babies this June. If it seems like it may be uncomfortable, maybe you could camp outside of their window & be able to see them as they sleep.

I'm so glad you guys are as excited as I am. Thanks for your involvement.

Joan, LOVE the quote from your Dad!!

MIST... I was thinking the same thing of the backyard... we'll have a 2-month old baby then as well... I signed us up...

We have done the Monarch Butterfly things (2 summers ago), and will do it again this summer... although I was going to ORDER them through the mail. That just seems tacky, but its true... Maybe we'll try the natural way.

I'll have to look into the sunflower project... I don't even know if they grow up here... Thanks for the ideas!

First of all - congrats to you and Tsh on the launch of Simple Kids! I am absolutely thrilled to see this is the first branch off of Simple Mom. I so look forward to learning more from you in the coming weeks and months.

On a personal note, I always love to meet Texas mamas. Even though life has moved us away from the state I love so much, I still hold to the belief that there is just something special about those Lone Star women. We lived south of Austin for four years and will always gladly join in a good ol' Hook 'Em (especially because it really irritates people up here in the Sooner State).

Many blessings on this adventure. I really can't wait to get to know you and Simple Kids more!

Thanks for adding excellent events to the list! I can't wait to see how people respond to these opportunities.
... and, yes, my dad's awesome. :)

Beautiful quote from your dad. :)

I've signed our family up for the GABC and our neighbors have already agreed to join us that night! I'm hoping we might be able to get some of the other families on our street in on the act too, though our very small yard won't be able to hold more than a couple tents. Should be interesting since we'll have a very small baby by June...

Other ideas are:
<a href="http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc" rel="nofollow">The Great Backyard Bird Count</a>
<a href="http://www.patchproducts.com/letsplay/NBGW.asp" rel="nofollow">National Backyard Games Week</a>
<a href="http://www.greatsunflower.org/" rel="nofollow">The Great Sunflower Project</a>-- We are definitely participating in this one this year.
