I love “The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big, Hungry Bear” and wrote a post about how it stimulated some wonderful discussion and learning amongst a group of 2-3 year olds. You can read about it here;

We have been reading "Time for Bed" since the girls were babes. Now whenever we pull it out to read again, we are all filled with sentimental nostalgia :) Picture books have a timeless way of staying in your heart and mind...

We received 'Time for Bed' for my oldest son and immediately my husband decide it was a worthless book. Interestingly enough, my son disagreed (he was 1 I think) and proceeded to love the book. Fast forward 10 years later, and my 4th child is still reading the very battered and raggedy copy of this book which my husband had deemed worthless. I guess what appealed to him and what appealed to his children were totally different things ; ) My kids have all loved this book and the sing song way in which it can be read it just so soothing.... I totally agree with Catherine!

We just discovered "The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big, Hungry Bear" a couple of weeks ago, and my little guy (18 months) LOVES it! Our library has this fantastic new program called Stories To Share - 100 books selected by the librarians, split up into 20 nice canvas bags. You check out a whole bag at a time and get a checklist to keep track of which ones you read. The books are more pre-school aged, so some are a little too long for his attention span, but there are one or two in each bag that he likes.... but The Little Mouse is definitely a favorite, we're going to buy it for him very soon. He loves doing the "Boom Boom Boom" of the bear, points and laughs and says "nose" at the picture of the strawberry in disguise, and points and makes a weird "ooo ooo" scared-sounding noise at the picture of the mouse hiding under the table cloth.
